About the Role
Perform a variety of routine basic bookkeeping and accounting duties including reconciling data, accepting payments, maintaining financial records, providing cashiering services, processing payments, preparing bank deposits, handling payroll, and responding to customer inquiries.
Responsibilities
- Receive, sort, and enter payment information into the computer system; verify dollar amounts, vendor names, and addresses; prepare bank deposits.
- Perform customer service counter duties, including collecting cash, processing payments, and responding to complaints and inquiries.
- Maintain inventory of purchased supplies and track inventory distribution transactions.
- Receive and verify time cards; enter information into the computer.
- Process various department payrolls; reconcile payroll records, ledgers, and data; maintain sick leave, vacation, and compensation records.
- Perform financial spreadsheets, word processing, and data verification; maintain files and records retention as required.
- Post data to ledgers, registers, journals, spreadsheets, databases, and logs using established accounting techniques.
- Maintain and compute adjustments for assigned accounts; ensure compliance with various programs.
- Input and retrieve fiscal and statistical information; reconcile data and ensure supporting documentation; analyze and resolve inconsistencies.
- Reconcile monthly statements from vendors; confer with vendors regarding purchase orders, invoices, and payments.
- Coordinate travel arrangements as necessary.
- Answer telephones and refer calls to appropriate personnel.
- Issue permits; receive and process fees for regulation, licensing, and permits.
- May assist in cashiering at Convenience Centers or Scale House.
- May drive daily for approximately four (4) hours a day.
- Prepare and process purchase orders for payment; maintain, balance, and reconcile account records.
- Transfer expenditure/revenue figures from general ledger/journals to spreadsheets for reporting.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings.
- May perform routine dispatching duties as necessary.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED, supplemented by fifteen (15) credit hours of college-level coursework in business.
- Two (2) years of basic bookkeeping or accounting experience.
- Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver’s License or ability to obtain by date of hire.
- Possession of a City Operator’s Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
