About the role

Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor – Tax Department, this role performs various routine and assists with non‑routine professional tax accounting functions of the Tax Department. The position ensures compliance with state and federal regulations, reviews internal and external reports, maintains tax records and General Ledger systems, and applies Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Responsibilities

  • Prepare or assist in preparing tax data for reports such as monthly internal financial reports, FERC Form 1, E.E.I. statistical analysis report, and filing various tax reports.
  • Prepare schedules to support state, local, and/or federal tax returns.
  • Prepare rate‑case schedules and discovery responses on taxes.
  • Collaborate with Financial Planning on budgeting and forecasting tax‑related issues.
  • Conduct special projects, research, and analysis of tax issues.
  • Prepare monthly tax entries for the general ledger.
  • Prepare audit work papers on taxes.
  • Review literature on public‑utility updates affecting the company from a tax‑accounting standpoint.
  • Stay abreast of changing tax regulations and internal policies.
  • Participate in or deliver training to other staff on tax activities.
  • Assist in documentation and enhancement of data‑processing systems.
  • Prepare and/or review tax account reconciliations from tax returns to the General Ledger.
  • Comply with all applicable company policies, procedures, code of ethics, and governmental laws and regulations.
  • Perform other related tasks within the scope of the duties defined.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • Three or more years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Knowledge of federal tax laws, rules, regulations, and reporting procedures.
  • Knowledge of the electric‑utility business preferred.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer, interpret laws, analyze information, and prepare comprehensive taxation reports.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with officers, managers, fellow employees, and the public.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive matters.

Pay

Starting salary: $70,100 – $95,774 (commensurate with experience).
