About the role
The Department of Customer Services (CSD) is seeking an Accountant IV to lead and oversee complex accounting operations for the Division of Motor Vehicles. This role manages financial reporting, revenue accounting, internal controls, and accounting procedures while ensuring accurate oversight of funds collected for multiple State programs and agencies.
Responsibilities
- Control accounting records through auditing of receipts, locating and adjusting errors and balancing and reconciling ledgers.
- Audit receipts from the Division of Treasury.
- Prepare accounting statements and reports of license revenue collections.
- Review, revise, develop and coordinate accounting procedures.
- Plan, direct, assign and evaluate the work of subordinates.
- Develop and prepare the annual revenue budget that includes the six-year projected estimates.
Requirements
- Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major work in accounting or a related field with at least 12 semester credit hours in accounting or auditing courses.
- Three (3) years of experience in professional accounting.
- A Master's degree in Accounting from an accredited four-year college or university will substitute for one of the required three years of professional accounting experience.
Qualifications
- Education Requirement: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major work in accounting or a related field with at least 12 semester credit hours in accounting or auditing courses. (Note: Six of the 12 credits must be above the elementary course level and from an accredited four-year college or university.)
- Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of experience in professional accounting. A Master's degree in Accounting from an accredited four-year college or university will substitute for one of the required three years of professional accounting experience.
Skills
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of commercial and governmental accounting.
- Knowledge of the preparation and analysis of financial statements and reports.
- Knowledge of public fiscal administration including budgeting and financial reporting.
- Ability to devise and install accounting methods, techniques and procedures.
- Ability to prepare complete and accurate reports and standards.
- Ability to analyze data, detect errors and correct inconsistencies in accounting records.
