Full-time, exempt position with a salary range of $82,566.48 - $119,781.96. This is a hybrid role based primarily at the Ralph Carr Judicial Center, 1300 Broadway, Denver, CO 80203.
About the Role
Provides professional accounting work for the Colorado Judicial Department. This Accountant III position is distinguished by more complex accounting duties and may act in a lead capacity, reviewing work, providing training, and mentoring other accounting staff.
Responsibilities
- Assists the Accountant IV and Department Controller with analyzing financial reports, preparing fiscal year-end exhibits, reconciling accounts, developing training materials, teaching classes, and writing fiscal rules.
- Prepares, reviews, and/or approves accounting transactions in accordance with GAAP, GASB pronouncements, Judicial Branch Fiscal Rules, statutory requirements, and other authoritative guidance, including:
- Disbursement of funds
- Receipt and deposit of funds
- Journal entries
- Intra-governmental transfers
- Reviews and identifies accounting procedures needing improvement; researches resolutions and provides recommendations to the Department Controller.
- Prepares special financial reports as requested.
- Provides customer service via phone, email, and in-person to department personnel, vendors, and customers.
- Attends meetings and trainings as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Supervisory duties include:
- Scheduling and assigning work within the accounting unit
- Training staff in all facets of work
- Quality control and decisions impacting pay, status, and tenure
- Conducting performance appraisals
- Participating in discipline, dismissal, and hiring processes
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a closely related field (e.g., finance).
- Four years of professional accounting experience.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Regularly required to sit, use hands for repetitive motions, and talk or hear.
- Frequently required to walk.
- Occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds.
- Requires close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Work environment is usually quiet but may involve handling emergency or crisis situations, frequent interruptions, and managing multiple calls or inquiries simultaneously.
