About the Role

Positions in this job family are responsible for professional-level work in maintaining, analyzing, interpreting, and managing financial accounting data. This includes preparing and posting journals, ledgers, and accounts; analyzing financial data; preparing financial statements and expenditure reports; reviewing and approving vouchers and invoices for payment; analyzing budget requirements; preparing payroll data; and allocating funds.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews, analyzes, and presents financial data, including revenue projections and expenditure reports, to determine funding requirements.
  • Prepares financial statements, reports of operations, expenditure reports, statistical data, and other financial information; assists in gathering and reviewing data for budget work programs.
  • Maintains various ledgers, journals, registers, and other fiscal records; allocates revenues to appropriate functions; classifies expenditures and posts to accounts.
  • Reviews and processes expense vouchers, invoices, and other fiscal documents for payment; reconciles financial reports and data.
  • Serves as travel coordinator, arranging lodging, airline, and rental car reservations.
  • Handles purchases using the state’s Purchase Card.
  • Assists other positions within the Fiscal/HR Division.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance, or a closely related field plus one year of professional accounting experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience (one year of bookkeeping may substitute for each year of the required degree).
  • If not already a certified procurement officer (CPO), must obtain certification within one year of employment.
  • Experience with an agency-wide purchase card is preferred.
  • Experience with the PeopleSoft Financial System is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Excel.
  • Must pass a rigid character and background investigation, polygraph examination, and drug screen.

Skills & Competencies

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and theories.
  • Knowledge of financial statements, reports, ledgers, and journals.
  • Knowledge of computer technology related to accounting systems and payroll systems.
  • Knowledge of budget preparation and the Oklahoma Central Purchasing Act, OMES Central Purchasing Division Rules, Policies & Procedures, and State of Oklahoma Policy and Procedures for Purchase Card.
  • Ability to prepare financial statements and reports, analyze financial information, maintain accounting data, and review revenue and cost data for budget preparation.

Pay

$50,000 - $60,000 annually. Salary determined by the Director based on experience.

Schedule

Full-time, regular position.
