Accountant II
Location: Chicago, IL (Wrigley Building) • Hybrid (Onsite Monday – Wednesday)
About the Role
Oil-Dri Corporation of America is seeking a CPA with strong accounting fundamentals to support month-end close, fixed assets, cash reconciliation, account reconciliations, and financial reporting activities. This role provides broad exposure across corporate accounting, SEC reporting, audit support, and capital project accounting while partnering closely with accounting and finance leaders across the organization. Responsibilities
- Perform daily cash reconciliations and resolve reconciling items in a timely manner
- Administer and maintain fixed asset accounting processes, controls, and procedures
- Manage the Capital Expenditure Request process, including project setup, approval tracking, reporting, and project closeout
- Record fixed asset acquisitions and dispositions and reconcile fixed asset subledger activity to the general ledger
- Calculate and record monthly depreciation expense
- Prepare journal entries and support month-end close activities
- Review and post Accounts Payable batches for accuracy and proper coding
- Provide backup support for Accounts Payable functions as needed
- Prepare monthly account reconciliations, bank reconciliations, and general ledger analyses
- Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for SEC filings
- Maintain petty cash controls and reconciliations
- Assist with ad hoc financial analysis and reporting requests
- Prepare audit, tax, and budget schedules related to fixed assets
- Support year-end audit activities, including audit schedules and auditor requests
- Participate in special projects and other accounting initiatives as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- CPA required
- Minimum two years of accounting experience
- Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Experience with fixed assets, month-end close, and account reconciliations
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail and follow-through
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Motivated, self-directed, and eager to learn
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with OneStream, JD Edwards (JDE), or a similar ERP environment
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Experience supporting audits, SEC reporting, or public company accounting environments
- Manufacturing or industrial industry experience
Pay
$70,000 - $90,000 + Annual Bonus
