About the role

First Tactical is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Accountant to join our finance team. You will be responsible for managing and maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting the organization’s financial function. Responsibilities

  • Prepare, examine, and maintain accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements (as applicable).
  • Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements.
  • Work closely with accounts receivable and manage escalation of slow paying/trouble accounts, as needed, to ensure collection. Also, responsible for the management of customer credit limits and credit insurance policy.
  • Assist in budgeting and forecasting, providing variance analysis and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with department heads to track expenses and optimize resource allocation.
  • Support external audits by preparing schedules, reports, and documentation.
  • Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial operations.
  • Maintain internal controls and accounting systems to support accuracy and prevent fraud.
  • Manage the reconciliation of general ledgers and balance sheet accounts with proper documentation and support.
  • Prepare financial statements for management and tax reporting.
  • Prepare reports, as needed, for business taxes and ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal regulations.
  • Conduct internal audits and variance analyses to identify trends or discrepancies.
  • Forecasting cash flow and making recommendations based on performance data.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required;
  • 5+ years of accounting experience;
  • Experience in a public company preferred;
  • Detail oriented with analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Strong Excel skills;
  • Knowledge of accounting ERP systems (ABS preferred);
  • Able to adapt to shifting priorities, embrace new or evolving responsibilities, balance multiple demands from supervisors and peers;
  • Maintains a calm, positive demeanor under pressure.

Physical Demands/Work Conditions

Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle and feel, and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time. Requires repetitive hand movements and fine coordination, including use of a computer keyboard. Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds (e.g., tradeshow materials or office supplies).
