Key Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly expense analysis reports.
- Aid in the preparation of statutory Annual and Quarterly Statements.
- Support external auditors by providing documentation and explanations.
- Prepare and post standard journal entries; reconcile general ledger accounts monthly.
- Maintain and update the monthly financial file, including: Loss and premium data, Budget and prior period data, General ledger balances, Additional financial elements as needed.
- Monitor daily bank activity and prepare monthly cash flow reports.
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and reconcile credit card statements to general ledger accounts.
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and reconcile credit card statements to general ledger accounts.
- Support the preparation of annual premium tax returns and electronic filings for Federal and State tax deposits.
Regulatory & Compliance
- Work with unclaimed property vendor to file with various states; maintain and reconcile escheatable property analysis monthly.
- Maintain accurate records and organized documentation for audit and compliance purposes.
- Ensure confidentiality of all financial information and comply with internal reporting protocols.
Operational Support
- Serve as backup for Senior Accountant in areas including: Accounts Payable, Investments, Commissions, Fixed asset software.
- Collaborate with the Accounting Manager on: New analysis and reporting projects, Enhancements to existing files, Filtering and interpreting large datasets.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
- 0–2+ years of accounting experience.
- Insurance industry experience preferred, but not required.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, especially Excel.
- Experience with financial/accounting software (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server) is a plus.
