About the role

Under limited supervision, performs customer service and sales by responding to telephone, written, and face-to-face communications from individual and small business internal and external customers. Serves as the customer's advocate by facilitating communications between the customer and carrier regarding insurance coverage.

Responsibilities

  • Identify small business and middle market customer issues or concerns within assigned book of business by listening and clarifying the customer's comments, researching system files, procedures, and guidelines to determine the action needed, then provide an accurate verbal or written response to the customer regarding existing coverage levels and recommend additional products or services to minimize coverage gaps when applicable.
  • Process within the agency management system and/or carrier websites service and sales workload assigned following department and agency procedures. Ensure system documentation and all written communication to the customer is professional, thorough, concise, and free of typographical errors.
  • Participate in routine department and agency meetings. Provide feedback and suggestions to enhance our customers' experience and overall department/agency efficiency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and business writing skills;
  • Able to effectively handle diverse customers and to express empathy and concern;
  • Proficient in ability to analyze varied data, research problems and make sound decisions using own judgement, manuals, and available resources;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in groups;
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively organize and prioritize multiple work assignments, pay attention to detail and focus on quality;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in effective quoting, proposing and binding of coverage;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in effective use of a management system and technology tools;
  • Demonstrated ability to comprehend and comply with department workflows and guidance;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of insurance concepts and core carrier underwriting guidelines and requirements;
  • Ability to travel regionally on occasion.

Qualifications

  • Education and Experience: Associate degree and 4-years relevant work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience requiredBachelor degree preferred
  • Property & Casualty Broker's license and/or Life, Accident, and Health license or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire

Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to comprehend and comply with department workflows and guidance
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of insurance concepts and core carrier underwriting guidelines and requirements
  • Ability to travel regionally on occasion
