Responsibilities

  • Take part in client discussions around specific PR/PA strategies and recommend appropriate tactics.
  • Manage multiple clients simultaneously.
  • Proactively bring new ideas to clients on a regular basis.
  • Work in a coordinated fashion with other members of the Mower team.
  • Collaborate with PR/PA leadership and play an active role in executing client programs.
  • Possess strong written skills, including AP Stylebook formats and use of SEO best practices.
  • Possess solid verbal and presentation skills for use in client meetings.
  • Understand and stay current on social media platforms and have the ability to execute programs using digital tools.
  • Develop compelling pitch angles, research the media landscape and secure editorial coverage.
  • Monitor media changes and keep Mower’s shared database of important targets finely tuned.
  • Help to plan and manage successful special events and client activation programs.
  • Think visually and look for opportunities to communicate using video, photography and graphics.
  • Support the management of client budgets.
  • Recognize and avoid potential legal, regulatory and ethical issues involving client communications activity, and take corrective actions when necessary.
  • Use tools provided by the agency to monitor and measure client programs.
  • Stay current on client industry developments, general economic and political news, and leading communications theory/techniques.
  • Maintain client status reports and provide updates to measurement and tracking documents.
  • As needed, oversee assistant account executives and agency interns, guiding their journey into PR/PA.

Additional Public Affairs Responsibilities

  • Support the planning and execution of grassroots and grasstops engagement programs, including stakeholder outreach, relationship management, and community engagement initiatives.
  • Aid in developing outreach materials, fact sheets, presentations, talking points, stakeholder correspondence, and other public affairs communications.
  • Conduct stakeholder research and mapping to identify key community leaders, elected officials, organizations and influencers.
  • Develop first drafts of client materials, including communications plans, meeting summaries, reports, outreach strategies, and public-facing content.
  • Participate in community meetings, public events, stakeholder interviews, canvassing and listening sessions as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with Public Affairs team members to develop and execute integrated client programs.
  • Support issue monitoring and analysis related to client projects, public policy developments, community sentiment and emerging stakeholder concerns.
  • Demonstrate strong project management skills and the ability to independently move assignments forward while seeking guidance when appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, journalism, political science, public policy, marketing or related field.
  • 2-3 years of experience in public affairs, public relations, community engagement, political campaigns, government relations, stakeholder engagement or related communications field.
  • Experience supporting grassroots and/or grasstops engagement initiatives strongly preferred.
  • Strong writing, research and organizational skills required.
  • Interest in renewable energy, sustainability, infrastructure or related industries is a plus.
