Accessibility Specialist
Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia, serving Virginia’s capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. About the role
The Accessibility Specialist provides comprehensive support to students with disabilities by providing information, coordinating and implementing appropriate accommodations, and offering academic guidance to promote student success. This position works collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and campus partners to assess individual needs, facilitate access to academic programs and services, and ensure an inclusive and accessible educational environment. The Accessibility Specialist also provides ongoing support and guidance to students regarding available resources, accommodations, and strategies for achieving their academic goals.
Responsibilities
- Provide information, coordinate, and implement appropriate accommodations for students with disabilities.
- Offer academic guidance to promote student success.
- Collaborate with students, faculty, staff, and campus partners to assess individual needs and facilitate access to academic programs and services.
- Ensure an inclusive and accessible educational environment.
- Provide ongoing support and guidance to students regarding available resources, accommodations, and strategies for achieving academic goals.
- Advise students and provide a high level of customer service to students, faculty, and staff.
- Interpret and execute policies and procedures.
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Work independently and establish positive working relationships with faculty, staff, and administrators.
- Utilize personal computers and a variety of current software programs, including Accommodate.
Requirements
- Working knowledge of academic requirements, career opportunities, qualifications, and college operations.
- Working knowledge of local, state, and federal disability laws and statutes.
- Working knowledge of the accommodation process and adaptive software and hardware used in providing accommodations.
- Demonstrated ability to advise students and provide a high level of customer service.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and execute policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to work with individuals with diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and establish positive working relationships.
- Experience utilizing personal computers and a variety of current software programs, including Accommodate.
Qualifications
- Degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in counseling or a related field.
- Current experience working with a variety of individuals with disabilities.
Pay
Hiring range is $45,000-$50,500.
