About the role
The Accessibility Services Coordinator at Paine College collaborates with students, faculty, and staff to create a campus environment that is usable, equitable, sustainable, and inclusive of all members of the Paine College community. The coordinator works to provide reasonable accommodations for students with various impairments or disabilities.
Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and implement accessibility services for students with physical, cognitive, health, attention, psychological, and other impairments or disabilities as mandated by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, and the federal and state laws to ensure reasonable accommodations for students in post-secondary settings.
- Evaluate and interpret student academic history and documentation to coordinate the provision of appropriate accommodations and maintain accurate and confidential records.
- Coordinate support services for note taking, extended time for testing, equipping loaner computers with adaptive software or hardware and/or other appropriate adjustments to ensure educational opportunity.
- This position will interact on a consistent basis with students, faculty, and staff.
- Meet with prospective students, current students, and family members to consult, review documentation, and discuss eligibility for reasonable accommodations.
- Meet with assigned case load of students as needed to assist and make appropriate referrals to campus and/or community support to enhance overall student development.
- Evaluate and interpret student academic history and documentation to coordinate the provision of reasonable and appropriate accommodations and developing resources and workshops/programs to meet students’ needs.
- Maintain working knowledge of current assistive technology, best practices, and make recommendations for new acquisitions.
- Prepare and analyze student data and complete all required Title III reports and other institutional required reports (e.g., Monthly, Quarterly, Annual, Time and Effort, Statistical reports, etc.).
- Perform other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, the hire of work study students to take notes, exam proctoring, etc.
Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Special Education, Education Rehabilitation, Social Work, Counseling, or related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Preferred: Specialized Training in Learning Disabilities; Licensure in Social Work, Mental Health Clinician;
- Bilingual is a plus.
- Required Experience: Three or more years of job-related experience working with physical, cognitive, academic, and psychological disabilities.
- Knowledge of ADA, ADAAA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Fair Housing Act, other state and federal laws, and related standards.
- Knowledge of physical, medical, psychological, sensory, and learning disabilities.
- Knowledge of reasonable accommodations for specific disabilities.
- Knowledge of counseling and advising techniques.
- Knowledge of adaptive equipment and technology.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, customer service skills, and ability to multi-task
- Experience in higher education is desirable.
- Experience working with diverse populations.
- Experiencing using Microsoft Office Suite.
