AccessABLE Rec. - Swimming Instructor

About the role
This is a temporary/seasonal position teaching adaptive swim lessons to children aged 4-12 with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities through the AccessABLE Rec. Program.
Responsibilities
- Work directly with individuals with disabilities, encouraging water readiness and teaching basic swim skills.
- Assist with setting out and putting away equipment and supplies.
- Greet students and families at the beginning of each class and escort students in and out of the pool.
- Communicate progress and suggestions to parents and the AccessABLE Recreation Program Coordinator.
- Monitor and enforce safe behavior and encourage all appropriate safety precautions in and around the pool area.
- Complete necessary forms and paperwork pertaining to students and program policies.
Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years of age, demonstrate responsibility and maturity.
- Must be committed to work when scheduled.
- Must be comfortable working in the water with students of various intellectual and physical abilities.
- Must be self-motivated, comfortable in the water, and able to physically lift, hold, and provide necessary physical support to students.
Qualifications
- Passionate about teaching and willing to learn.
- Experience performing similar work (desirable).
Pay
$16.81–$19.96 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
Schedule
- 1.5–3 hours per week.
- Mondays and Wednesdays during the school year from October 2026 to May 2027, with holidays off and breaks in between seasons.
- Flexible scheduling available.
Physical and Environmental Criteria
This position is classified as Light Work: exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- Continuous demands: sitting, standing, walking.
- Frequent demands: lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling.
- Occasional demands: kneeling, crouching, bending, twisting.
Sensory requirements include sight, hearing, and touch. Environmental conditions may include extreme heat (above 100 degrees).
