About the Role
Instruct swimming and water safety classes at the Aquatics facility for patrons of all ages, teaching various strokes, basic diving, safety, and survival skills.
Responsibilities
- Instruct various levels of swimming, including strokes such as front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke, and butterfly.
- Teach students from infant through adult age groups.
- Instruct basic diving, safety, and survival skills.
- Collaborate with lifeguards to ensure swim lessons are safe at all times.
- Enforce pool safety standards and facility operational rules.
- Plan and organize instruction methods and goals supporting outlines provided by the Aquatics Program Manager and certifying organization.
- Organize and direct student activities to provide high-quality instruction.
- Develop swim programs based on student ability and promote students to higher levels according to their skills.
- Provide individual feedback to parents/guardians regarding student progress and achievements.
- Offer introductory equipment orientations as needed.
- Inspect swim instruction equipment to ensure compliance with environmental health standards and report deficiencies.
- Administer aquatic assessment testing and certification in accordance with DoD, DON, and CNIC policy.
- Complete and submit records and documentation of lessons to the Aquatics Program Manager and the American Red Cross office.
- Work with the Aquatics Program Manager to refine teaching skills for various age groups and skill levels.
- Prepare and complete accident/incident reports during emergencies and notify management immediately.
- Handle hazardous materials, including cleaning agents and pool chemicals.
- Verify patron identification to ensure proper facility usage.
- Assist in organizing and developing special programs, activities, or instruction.
- Maintain a safe environment by regularly cleaning and tidying equipment.
- Answer telephone inquiries regarding facility hours, special events, and programs.
- Complete Daily Activity Reports, handle cash transactions, verify amounts collected, and secure funds in the drop safe.
Requirements
- Must submit all of the following current, active certifications:
- Water Safety Instructor
- Lifeguard Certification
- CPR for Professional Rescuers
- First Aid (including Automated External Defibrillator)
- Blood Borne Pathogens
- Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
- Must have salary sent to a financial institution via Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
- Must be able to work varied schedules, including holidays, weekends, and evenings.
- Must be able to work with hazardous materials (e.g., cleaning agents, pool chemicals).
Qualifications
- Knowledge of instructional methods and goals of the organization.
- Knowledge of DoD, DON, and CNIC aquatic assessment and testing policy.
- Knowledge of basic water safety equipment for various age groups.
- Knowledge of basic first aid procedures, including automated external defibrillator and blood borne pathogens.
- Knowledge of basic arithmetic for computing charges, dispersing change, and preparing reports.
- Knowledge of cash handling procedures.
- Ability to complete a 300-yard swim in less than 10 minutes.
- Ability to assess and instruct various swimming skills, basic diving, and water safety for all age groups.
- Ability to plan and organize age- and skill-appropriate swimming instruction.
- Ability to rescue persons in the water of various sizes, including those who may panic or be unconscious.
- Ability to enforce safety regulations to protect swimmers.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Salary is dependent on experience and/or education. Selectee may be required to complete a one-year probationary period. Spouses of active duty military members may receive preference in hiring if among the best qualified and within reach of selection.
