Access Coordinator

About the Role

The Center for Disability Resources (CDR) at Syracuse University is seeking a full-time Access Coordinator to join a dynamic team providing disability-related services to students. The role involves engaging students in the interactive process to determine accommodations, managing the implementation of approved accommodations, and coordinating with faculty and staff as needed. The coordinator will also provide outreach and programming to expand CDR’s presence in their assigned school or college.

The ideal candidate is an independent and progressive thinker who embraces the social justice model of disability.

Responsibilities

• Engage individually with students in the interactive process, including reviewing disability-related documentation and consulting with campus experts or healthcare providers as needed.
• Directly or indirectly coordinate and implement disability-related accommodations.
• Communicate with faculty and staff to ensure the provision and delivery of necessary services and accommodations for students.
• Collaborate with a team of access coordinators to deliver timely supports and reasonable accommodations to students registered with or inquiring about CDR.
• Participate in weekly case management and housing meetings, drop-in hours, and monitoring of CDR specialist email.
• Maintain student records and detailed case notes using CDR’s internal management system, Accommodate.
• Serve as a single point of contact and liaison for an assigned school or college.
• Conduct faculty outreach, attend department meetings, and provide professional development or training on faculty responsibilities.
• Provide technical and administrative support for CDR’s exam services during midterms and finals.
• Participate in the development, promotion, and ongoing delivery of CDR events, programs, and assessment activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (required); Master’s degree (preferred) in Higher Education, Disability Resources, Counseling, or a related field.
• Three years’ experience (five years preferred) in disability resources or a related field in a higher education setting.
• Experience working in an educational setting, preferably with college-age students on a college campus.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with strict timelines.
• Years of experience in the disability resources field may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree.

Skills and Knowledge

• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, and decision-making skills.
• Well-versed in disability-related accommodations, supports, and applicable disability laws in higher education.
• Knowledge of the Social Justice Model regarding disability services in higher education.
• Creative and effective strategies to engage marginalized students and increase participation in CDR programming.
• Working knowledge of program assessment and the development of student learning outcomes.
• Familiarity with adaptive technology, universal design, and other disability-related strategies and interventions.
• Proficiency in computer-related skills, including Excel.
• Familiarity with learning and data management systems.
