Access & Advocacy Specialist (Pool)
This position is part of the Center for Access & Advocacy and reports to the Assistant Dean of Student Engagement and Retention. It focuses on researching student retention strategies and coordinating services to meet students' academic, social, and emotional needs through advocacy, communication, and resource management.
Responsibilities
- Primarily serve students on the Academic Recovery Program (ARP) probation and suspension.
- Develop collaborative relationships and partnerships with faculty, staff, and community partners to address students’ personal and academic needs.
- Partner with colleagues on the CARE Team to manage CARE Connection referrals as needed.
- Provide direct and referral services to students through program development, implementation, coordination, and assessment.
- Participate in and promote College-wide activities supporting student success, including registration and faculty/staff professional development.
- Analyze student information through interviews, assessments, and records to evaluate interests, abilities, and barriers to academic success and retention.
- Provide direct services or referrals to campus and community resources; recommend policy revisions to improve support for at-risk students.
- Evaluate and implement new support and intervention strategies for students during critical points of their college experience.
- Apply an outreach/connection/triage/intervention/follow-up framework and coordinate referrals to College and community services.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate methods to identify and outreach to target populations in collaboration with academic and student services departments.
- Assist students with personal and academic concerns by establishing goals and action plans.
- Educate students about available services, including financial aid, disability support, counseling, tutoring, and academic advising.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Master’s degree.
- Three (3) years of related work experience.
Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
- Self-motivated and able to communicate effectively with diverse populations in a positive, professional manner.
- Exceptional administrative and organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Commitment to personal and professional growth.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills to assess data and recommend effective actions.
- Ability to travel between buildings and campuses.
- Strong customer service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Counseling, Student Development/Student Affairs, Rehabilitation/Vocational Counseling, Education, Special Education, or a related field.
- Experience working with at-risk student populations.
- Familiarity with local social services and community resource agencies.
- Experience with case management.
Pay
$25.00 per hour
Schedule
Part-time, on an as-needed basis (pool posting for temporary assignments).
