About the role

The Academic Success and Bar Passage Administrative Support Specialist at Widener University’s Delaware Law School plays a key role in supporting initiatives that promote student achievement and bar exam readiness. Reporting to the Bar Programs Director and Co-Directors of the Academic Success Program, this position provides essential support to the Office of Student Affairs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Bar and Academic Success Program directors with program and event planning and coordination.
  • Work with the Bar Program directors to provide preliminary information relating to bar admission to international LLM students.
  • Affiliate with Bar Programs directors to maintain bar class attendance records and assessment logistics.
  • Provide guidance to students seeking to amend their law school applications to include character and fitness updates; maintain records relating to the updates.
  • Create and publish a periodic newsletter for students with bar and academic success-related tips, as well as information about available services.
  • Provide students who contact the office with information relating to academic success and bar preparation services; connect students with advisors as necessary.
  • Interact professionally with a wide array of constituents, including students, faculty, administrators, alumni, attorneys, and judges.
  • Affiliate with proofreading, duplication/printing, and dissemination of flyers and other documents.
  • Work with other Student Affairs personnel to track office and program expenses and maintain financial records.
  • Help to greet office visitors, answer their questions, and direct them to the appropriate office or resource.
  • Affiliate with managing the Student Affairs/Academic Success study aid resource library.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s degree; two (2) years of administrative support experience in a busy office environment; demonstrated organizational skills, flexibility, and adaptability; strong proficiency with Microsoft Office suite especially Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; aptitude and willingness to learn new technology systems, including but not limited to student information systems and learning management systems; ability to work independently and as a part of team; superior written and verbal communication skills; ability to maintain confidentiality at all times; ability to work in an open office environment while helping to greet and assist office visitors; ability to maintain sensitivity, understanding, and respect for a diverse academic environment inclusive of students, faculty and staff of varying social economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Preferred: Experience in customer service; experience in Higher Education or a school office; experience working with law students.

Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Hours

  • Flexibility to work occasional evening hours, including up to two times per month until 6:15 p.m., to support student schedules.
  • Willingness to attend and participate in evening events as needed.
  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.
