Academic Program Specialist

This position is full or part-time, 80%-100%, and requires work to be completed onsite at a designated campus work location.

The Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine is seeking a highly organized, proactive, and solutions-oriented Academic Program Specialist to support multiple research laboratories and world-renowned investigators. In this dynamic role, you will serve as the operational backbone of our research enterprise—coordinating laboratory operations, purchasing, equipment management, regulatory compliance, student employee supervision, and administrative support that keeps innovative research moving forward.

The University of Wisconsin Cellular and Molecular Arrhythmia Research Program (CMARP) is a multi-investigator research group that focuses on the role of cardiac ion channels in cardiac physiology, pharmacology, and disease. Our work seeks to provide new understanding and therapies for inherited and acquired forms of arrhythmia and heart failure syndromes.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates program components and evaluates program effectiveness; provides recommendations for improvement.
• Supervises the day-to-day activities of one or more academic programs and resolves issues exercising discretion to meet unit goals.
• Utilizes independent judgement regarding development, implementation, promotion, and evaluation for one or more academic programs, initiatives, or events.
• Identifies program needs, contributes to the development of unit workflows, schedules logistics, and secures resources for meetings, events, and interviews.

Requirements

• Previous wet lab experience (required).
• Experience in laboratory operations and management (preferred).
• Experience providing administrative support (preferred).

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree preferred.

Pay

The starting salary for the position is $44,000 annually but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Effective July 1, 2024, positions earning less than $43,888 annually will be considered non-exempt under FLSA provisions for overtime, paid hourly, and eligible for overtime compensation for hours worked over 40 in a workweek.
