About the Role

The Department of Construction Science (COSC) in the College of Architecture at Texas A&M University seeks candidates for a full-time, non‑tenure‑track Academic Professional Track (APT) faculty position with a 9‑month academic appointment. The position is based at the Texas A&M Higher Education Center at McAllen (HECM) in McAllen, Texas, and supports the department’s programs at that campus. This is an open‑rank search encompassing titles from Lecturer through Professor of the Practice (including Senior Lecturer, Principal Lecturer, Instructional Assistant/Associate/Professor, and Assistant/Associate/Professor of the Practice), with the specific rank determined by the applicant’s academic qualifications, teaching experience, and breadth of industry experience. The target start date is Fall 2027.

The Department of Construction Science is one of the largest and most renowned construction higher‑education programs in the nation. It offers STEM‑designated degrees at the B.S., M.S. (face‑to‑face and online), and Ph.D. levels. The undergraduate program has been continuously accredited by the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE) since 1978, and the master’s program in Construction Management was among the first graduate programs accredited by ACCE (2012). In 2021, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board approved the Ph.D. in Construction Science — the first doctoral program in construction in Texas — with concentrations in construction management and safety, smart construction, and sustainable construction. As of Fall 2026, the department enrolls 1,358 undergraduate, 143 master’s, and 52 Ph.D. students, supported by 70 faculty and staff, a Construction Industry Advisory Council of over 350 firms, eight endowed professorships, and more than $500,000 in annual scholarships. The department also hosts the largest department‑level career fair at Texas A&M. On the College Station campus, the department is housed in Francis Hall, a 35,000‑square‑foot historic building dedicated solely to construction education.

Located in the heart of the Rio Grande Valley, the Texas A&M Higher Education Center at McAllen is a teaching‑focused campus emphasizing high‑quality instruction and student success. The student body is majority first‑generation, with an average student‑to‑faculty ratio of about 12:1, fostering close engagement. McAllen and neighboring Edinburg — known as “the cities of festivals” — offer a vibrant cultural calendar, short commutes, an affordable cost of living, and proximity to South Padre Island, the World Birding Center, the International Museum of Art & Science, the Gelman Stained Glass Museum, and Gladys Porter Zoo.
