About the Role

The Marine & Coastal Environmental Science Department (MCES) at Texas A&M University-Galveston invites applications for up to 5 full-time Academic Professional Track (Non-Tenure) and/or Temporary/Part-Time (Non-Tenure) positions. Titles and ranks—including (Visiting) Instructional Assistant Professor, (Visiting) Instructional Associate Professor, (Visiting) Instructional Professor, (Visiting) Lecturer, (Visiting) Senior Lecturer, or (Visiting) Principal Lecturer—depend on background, qualifications, and experience. Appointments are for 4.5 or 9 months, with the possibility of additional summer appointment contingent upon need and available funds, beginning fall 2026 or spring 2027.

Responsibilities

• Organize, deliver, evaluate, and assess lectures and associated labs for courses in earth and ocean sciences, environmental science, coastal resiliency, coastal geography, geology, GIS, remote sensing, biological oceanography, coastal and ocean economics, coastal ecosystems sciences, wetlands delineation, and/or coastal social ecological resiliency.
• Advise and mentor students.
• Participate in all aspects of the department's activities.
• Serve the profession.

About the Department & Campus

Academic Professional Track (APT) faculty are full and valued members of the professorial community at the College of Marine Sciences and Maritime Studies. APT faculty work under nine-month contracts, with renewal expected dependent upon effective teaching and service. APT contracts offer multi-year appointments after promotion, and a promotion ladder is available for those who choose teaching as their career.

The MCES department is interdisciplinary, with faculty research and teaching transecting natural, social, and applied scientific problems focused on the coastal zone, spanning from nearshore terrestrial areas to deep-sea and polar regions. All MCES faculty share an interest in human and physical response to hazards, hazard risk assessment, and hazard impact mitigation.

Texas A&M University at Galveston is the dedicated marine and maritime branch campus of Texas A&M University. It houses several institutions critical to Texas A&M’s land-, sea-, and space-grant mission and drives blue economy development on the Gulf Coast. The campus is home to the College of Marine Sciences & Maritime Studies and the Texas A&M Maritime Academy—one of six state maritime academies and the only one embedded within a Tier I research institution, training over 400 cadets annually for U.S. Coast Guard licenses and maritime careers.

Required Qualifications

• Doctoral degree in earth and ocean sciences, environmental science, coastal resiliency, coastal geography, geology, GIS, remote sensing, biological oceanography, coastal and ocean economics, coastal ecosystems sciences, coastal social ecological resiliency, or a closely related discipline in the field in which the faculty member will teach; OR
• Master’s degree in one of the above fields or a closely related discipline AND significant teaching experience at the college level in the field or a related field.

• Doctoral degree.
• Significant teaching experience at the college level in the field or a related field.
