Academic Professional Track (Non-Tenure): Instructional Assistant Professor or (visiting) Lecturer
About the role
The Department of Microbial Pathogenesis and Immunology (MPIM) at the Texas A&M University, College of Medicine, is seeking to hire one full-time or one part-time position. Candidates for full-time positions will be considered for the title of Instructional Assistant Professor, while those for part-time positions will be considered for the title of Lecturer, contingent upon qualifications.
Responsibilities
- Teaching and service responsibilities, with approximately a 90% and 10% distribution of effort, respectively.
- Primary focus on teaching Bioinformatics at the undergraduate or graduate level.
- Lead courses including basic introduction to command line environments, differential gene expression, metagenomics, genome assembly, comparative genomics, and single-cell sequence analysis.
- Develop new modules as needed that align with the candidate’s area of specialization.
- Prepare, deliver, and assess courses as the instructor of record.
- Teach approximately 9 credit hours per semester.
Requirements
- Lecturer: Master's degree in Genetics/Genomics/Bioinformatics or closely related discipline, or equivalent professional degree and significant teaching experience at the College/School level in the field or in a related field.
- Instructial Assistant Professor: PhD in Bioinformatics, Genomics, Computational Biology or closely related discipline, or equivalent professional degree.
Qualifications
- Broad experience in bioinformatics and computational biology.
- Well-rounded, teaching-centric individual.
- Experience teaching Bioinformatics at the undergraduate or graduate level.
- Ability to lead courses and develop new modules as needed.
- Primary responsibility for preparing, delivering, and assessing courses as the instructor of record.
Skills
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to develop and deliver virtual courses.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
