About the role
The Whiting School of Engineering is seeking an Academic Advisor to provide holistic support to students, including academic planning, course registration, major selection, and post-graduation planning.
Responsibilities
- Assist students with proactive academic planning and connections to academic resources.
- Work with students to help them meet their personal and academic goals, and to find solutions for personal, social, financial, and academic issues.
- Aid students with course registration, academic strategies, selecting majors and minors, and developing post-graduation plans.
- Track student progress by generating reports, examining data, and communicating with students about registration, grades, and graduation.
- View and manage early warning flags by providing outreach to students and communicating with faculty.
- Troubleshoot registration issues and refer students to support services.
- Advise students on academic opportunities and requirements, policies, and procedures.
- Conduct self-assessments and academic success plans with students on academic probation and those who have been reinstated from suspension.
- Monitor students' academic progress to advise them of their academic standing.
- Communicate the process and deadlines for graduation processing to students.
- Create and maintain accurate academic records using degree audit software and SIS.
- Document student meetings and notes in the student information database.
- Conduct group advising sessions, advising workshops, and co-sponsor events with faculty and other support offices.
- Collaborate with key campus partners such as the Registrar, Life Design, Financial Aid, Student Life, and Residential Life to connect advisees to campus resources.
- Participate in Advising and campus-wide working groups and committees.
- Engage in projects to continuously improve academic advising and the training of academic advisors.
Qualifications
- Master's Degree
- Three years of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical Skills and Proficiency in Academic Policies and Procedures, Database Management and Analysis, Financial Aid Systems, Oral and Written Communications, Organizational Skills, Student CRM, and Student Systems.
Benefits
Starting Salary Range: $55,800 - $97,600 Annually (Commensurate w/exp.)
