About the Role

Working independently, the Student Services Professional II (SSP II) performs moderately complex professional student services work to support student success. Under the direction of the NSC College Advising and Retention Specialist (CARS), responsibilities include direct academic advising for majors and minors within NSC departments/programs. The incumbent will use basic interviewing and counseling techniques to assist students in making timely progress toward their degree objectives.

With a focus on specific populations, this SSP II will conduct outreach to current and incoming students and assist with the NSC Student Success Center in Holt Hall. In collaboration with the Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, the incumbent will organize and supervise the mathematics tutoring program and the math learning lab.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct academic advising for majors and minors within NSC departments/programs.
  • Assist students in making timely progress toward their degree objectives using basic interviewing and counseling techniques.
  • Conduct targeted outreach to current and incoming students.
  • Support the NSC Student Success Center in Holt Hall.
  • Organize and supervise the mathematics tutoring program and the math learning lab in collaboration with the Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.

Requirements

  • Two years of full-time professional experience in a student services program area or related field, demonstrating competence and potential for growth.
  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field.
  • A Master’s degree in a job-related field may substitute for one year of professional experience.
  • Additional specialized experience may substitute for required education on a year-for-year basis.

Preferences

  • History of effectively establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships within a diverse student population.
  • Experience hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating students or staff.

Pay

CSU Classification Salary Range: $60,996 - $86,736 per year.

Schedule

Full-time, 12-month position. Work schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM. Summer schedule: Monday–Thursday, 7:00 AM–5:30 PM.

Additional Information
