About the role

The Academic Advisor II in the Center for Performing and Cinematic Arts (CPCA) advises students on academic schedules, long-term plans, choice of major, academic standing, and the interpretation and application of major, school/college, and university policies. This role maintains extensive student records, collaborates with faculty to address student concerns and implement curriculum changes, and disseminates academic-related information alongside the advising team. The Advisor develops and delivers outreach initiatives for first-year student success, meets with students individually or in groups, and provides access to resources for academic, career, and personal goals. The role also involves leading innovative projects to enhance student success and retention, and performing other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Advise students on academic schedules, long-term plans, choice of major, academic standing, and policy interpretation.
  • Maintain and update extensive student records.
  • Collaborate with faculty to discuss student concerns and implement curriculum changes.
  • Disseminate academic-related information with the advising team.
  • Develop and deliver outreach initiatives for first-year student success.
  • Meet with students individually or in groups to provide resources for academic, career, and personal goals.
  • Lead innovative projects to enhance student success and retention.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree and one and a half years of experience, including six months of advising experience in an academic setting in higher education.
  • Demonstrated experience in program development and implementation.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Skills

  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent organizational and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong customer service and diplomacy skills, with the ability to interact effectively with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to complete detail-oriented, time-sensitive tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Strong writing skills and proficiency in correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Banner or customized student database systems.
  • Experience working with post-secondary student populations.
  • Experience working or studying in the performing and cinematic arts.
  • Knowledge of Temple University academic resources, policies, and curricula.

Pay

Salary range: $41,250 - $60,000 (Salary Grade: T25). Learn more about Temple’s salary structure.
