Georgia State University’s University Advisement Center is seeking multiple Academic Advisor II positions to assist academic departments/units with academic plans, advisement, and implementation of university policies and procedures related to student enrollment and evaluation. This role provides information and advises enrolled and prospective students on academic programs, admission requirements, retention, and graduation. May coordinate the work of entry-level academic advisors.

Responsibilities
- Advises prospective and current students about academic requirements and course selection
- Disseminates information on university policies and procedures to faculty, parents, and students
- Maintains and updates student files throughout their academic careers
- Analyzes and processes requests for readmission from academic exclusion and financial aid reinstatements
- Provides retention services for students in the Academic Improvement Program
- Conducts orientation sessions for incoming students
- Audits student records for curriculum, major, and graduation requirements
- Evaluates and determines transfer credits; researches course descriptions for transferability
- Compares transcripts with entrance and graduation requirements; advises students on appropriate actions
- Refers students with academic discrepancies to proper officials
- Assists in preparing special reports related to enrollment and related matters
- Evaluates and maintains student records for degree requirements using academic evaluation systems
- Monitors student registration activities and academic performance/progress
- Coordinates communications to students regarding course scheduling, core/major requirements, and academic resources
- Determines award recipients based on academic performance
- Reviews course adjustment forms and petitions for readmission
- Processes applications for state certifications
- Teaches or co-teaches GSU 1010 courses
- Monitors and tracks retention, progression, and graduation of assigned students
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and either:
- 6 months of experience as an “Academic Advisor I” at GSU (University Advisement Center or other GSU advising department), or
- Three years of related experience, or
- A combination of education and related experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree and three years of experience in student retention or student affairs programs
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Experience presenting to groups or with group facilitation
- Experience following up on problems until resolution
- Proficiency with Excel, Banner, and student tracking applications (e.g., Grades First, EAB, Degree Works, or similar)
- Experience with transfer articulation

Positions available at the Atlanta Downtown, Dunwoody, Alpharetta, Decatur, and Online campuses (Online campus is housed on the Clarkston campus).
