Academic Advisor
About the role
The Department of Anthropology is seeking an Academic Advisor to serve as Undergraduate Program Coordinator in support of our students and the academic mission of our department. In addition to student advising, the individual in this position serves as the primary coordinator for the Anthropology Department undergraduate student program. As a member of our team this role provides information, student services, academic support, and program metrics to the Anthropology Department.
Responsibilities
- Participates in the campus-wide advising community providing input to leadership regarding the development of advising, recruitment, and co/curricular programs offered by the school/college
- Serve as curricular representative on department Curriculum Committee, responsible for department Timetable, Schedule of Classes, and enrollment management
- Serves as a main point of contact for students and provides information about educational options and academic requirements; assists with identifying and assessing interests, skills, and values to match appropriate field of study/career options, and refers students to appropriate institutional resources
- Maintains confidentiality and accurate student records and processes and responds to academic inquiries according to established institutional and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) policies
- Manage department website content, coordinate and maintain department social media
- Proactively engage students as needed
- Implement academic advising events such as workshops, panel discussions, and guest speakers

Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Professional experience in higher education, advising, or student services
- Experience with general curricular elements and structures
- Evidence of excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate complex information in a clear, concise, and organized manner
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to providing high quality service to diverse audiences
- Demonstrated ability to interpret, apply, and adhere to complex policies and procedures
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, be flexible, and be resourceful with proven success in working both independently and collaboratively within a professional team environment
- Ability to handle multiple priorities, demonstrate effective time-management, strong attention to accuracy, and excellent organizational skills
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to navigate challenges constructively
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred, with focus in higher education or counseling.
Benefits
Compensation: The expected salary range for this position is $48,000 - $53,000 for highly experienced candidates. Actual pay within this range will depend on experience and qualifications.
