About the role

ECC Elgin Community College serves over 9,000 students across various educational levels, including university transfer programs, career and technical education, continuing education, and adult basic education. Responsibilities

  • Provide academic advising focused on helping new, continuing, and returning students explore their academic and career goals.
  • Create and implement a completion plan for each student in your caseload using multiple modalities to contact, advise, assist, and monitor students.
  • Offer one-on-one personal and supportive services to students addressing factors that impact college course/program retention and success.
  • Cover for colleagues during periods of reduced staffing or increased appointment loads.
  • Assist the assigned manager in developing, coordinating, and implementing a comprehensive student support system, including facilitating relevant workshops and participating in college events and initiatives.
  • Support students in utilizing technology for self-service and provide academic support services.
  • Collaborate with other student services departments, such as Wellness, Career Development, Success Coaching, and TRIO, to enhance student outcomes.
  • Identify and share insights on current and potential academic needs and trends with supervisors, including potential solutions or next steps.
  • Participate in professional activities and keep up-to-date with applicable knowledge, sharing new information, research, or resources with colleagues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Human Services, Psychology, or a related field and one year of related experience within an education or human services field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Good knowledge of student development theory, including influences of culture, gender, class, environment, and age.
  • Good knowledge of college policies and practices impacting student enrollment, financial aid, and graduation.
  • Some knowledge of college and community resources available for students.
  • Working skills in advising and coaching others, including the ability to identify and support students who require additional professional help or resources.
  • Working skills in verbal and written communications.
  • Working skills in documenting student services in the appropriate electronic system.
  • Working skills in presenting information in a group setting or workshop.
  • Working skills in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and ability to operate a personal computer and various software packages.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Human Services, Psychology, or a related field.
  • One year of related experience within an education or human services field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Master's degree in a related field desirable.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is strongly preferred.

Skills

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
  • Knowledge of student development theories and practices.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including days, evenings, and weekends.

Pay

This is a Full-Time SSECCA position at grade 14, with an annual salary range of $54,932 to $73,243. The salary offer will be based on education and experience, in alignment with the College’s compensation philosophy and the current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), if applicable.

Schedule

Must be willing to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the department.
