General Description/Primary Purpose
The primary purpose of the academic advisor is to support and guide students throughout their academic journey. Academic advisors play a crucial role in enhancing student success and ensuring a positive and productive educational experience. Advisors serve as a resource to all prospective and current students within the College (undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, and graduate).
- Familiarize themselves with Department of Education and Board of Trustees policies and procedures governing matriculation processes (e.g., general education, Gordon Rule, transfer admissions requirements, registration processes, class scheduling, graduation, etc.).
- Be aware of appropriate student referral sources (e.g., academic support services, career services) to facilitate student success.
Job Function
- Provide individual and group academic advising across all modalities including in person and via phone and virtual platforms, as appropriate.
- Aid in limited access admission program, where applicable.
- Aid in probation and suspension decisions and other scheduled administrative functions associated with the academic calendar as needed.
- Aid in program reviews and provide college data as needed.
- Prepare productivity reports.
- Aid in the development of programs that increase persistence rates of undergraduate students while tracking and enhancing graduation rates.
- Recommend and provide input on academic policies and procedures that impact student persistence and graduation rates.
- Aid with NCAA compliance regulations pertaining to advising.
- Serve as a resource and student liaison to academic department chairpersons, the Deans office, and other student support service departments on campus (e.g., Enrollment Services, Dean of Students, Graduate School, Career Services, other UNF advising offices).
- Aid in the development and distribution of marketing materials describing offerings across undergraduate and graduate programs.
- Represent the College at various recruitment events throughout the year.
Required Qualifications
- A Master's or Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219.
