Responsibilities
The Office of Curriculum and Assessment, situated in the Offices for Medical Education in the School of Medicine and Dentistry, is responsible for supporting the MD educational activities. This position serves as an Academic Administrator for courses and committees within the medical school, including Introduction to Clinical Medicine (ICM) and Foundations of Biopsychosocial Practice (FBP).
Essential Functions - Course Coordinator
- Represents the School of Medicine in interactions with faculty, students, community physician preceptors, and other ancillary health providers regarding curricular implementation.
- Anticipates needs of faculty, staff, and students; analyzes workflow and establishes communication systems to ensure a smooth educational experience.
- Ensures that all course lectures, PBL sessions, and small group sessions begin on time; attends the start of all sessions.
- Analyzes and resolves complex student issues and concerns about the course, including anticipated/unanticipated absences and faculty issues.
- Analyzes and interprets policy and program protocol; collaborates with course directors to influence resolution.
- Determines appropriate action for student correspondence.
- Analyzes course grading data and produces reports; prepares recommendations based on data, advising course directors on student grades.
- Oversees all aspects of course evaluation; reviews data from students and faculty, producing and editing factual reports about course content and instructors.
- Analyzes and produces recommendations for course improvement and suggestions for implementation to course directors.
- Ensures timely and accurate assignment and communication processes to faculty and students regarding any changes in course curriculum.
- Creates and maintains relationships with various University service offices (e.g., Parking, Center for Experiential Learning) to ensure proper execution of teaching activities.
- Collaborates with faculty to ensure proper student preparation for all sessions, including compiling and editing syllabi material for thorough and timely production.
- Ensures timely and accurate communication to students, course directors, and faculty.
- Manages the online exam program for specific courses; collaborates with Information Analysts and the IT Department to create, score, and publish exams.
- Creates and maintains relationships with University faculty and course/clerkship directors to ensure proper execution of pathway activities.
General Administrative Duties
- Provides Course Directors and Instruction Committees with direct support as it relates to the curriculum.
- Composes and distributes non-routine and confidential correspondence.
- Exhibits excellent problem-solving skills in processing administrative requests.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of relevant experience required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Advising experience and program management in higher education preferred.
- Experience with student information systems preferred.
- 1-2 years of experience in higher education preferred; 3 years of relevant administrative experience preferred.
Skills

- Skilled with Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) preferred.
- Proficient in database management and reporting software preferred.
- Highly motivated self-starter; ability to multi-task, problem-solve, and prioritize immediate and long-term tasks and projects.
- Ability to work both autonomously and on a team to improve office functions and efficiency preferred.
- Ability to plan, implement, and analyze programs; think and act independently; work effectively with students and other members of the medical education team; and communicate and organize effectively in both oral and written form.
- Requires organizational skills; familiarity with MedHub (Medical School evaluation software), MedSIS (Medical School Information System), and RedCap preferred. Ability to learn new software quickly is necessary.
