About the Role

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Penn State College of Medicine seeks a full-time BC/BE Addiction Psychiatrist to join a growing academic addiction program. The physician will work within a multidisciplinary team to advance innovative clinical care, education, and research in substance use disorders.

Clinical programs include outpatient and consultation work with strong academic and community connections and embedded learners. The addiction division is actively engaged in nationally funded research, with investigators supported by NIDA, NCCIH, NIAAA, and SAMHSA, and is a participating site in the NIDA Clinical Trials Network through the Appalachian Node.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical care in addiction psychiatry within outpatient and consultation settings
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to advance clinical care, education, and research in substance use disorders
  • Teach and oversee medical residents, students, fellows, and other trainees
  • Engage in research initiatives, with potential for scholarly achievement

Requirements

  • MD or DO, or foreign equivalent
  • Board-certified or board-eligible in Psychiatry with added qualifications in addiction psychiatry
  • Demonstrated success in clinical addiction programs
  • Ability to obtain a Pennsylvania medical license and DEA certification
  • Strong teaching and clinical skills
  • Potential for scientific and scholarly achievement (preferred)

About the Department

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at Penn State College of Medicine and Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center is committed to enhancing quality of life through improved mental and behavioral health, professional preparation of providers, and discovery of knowledge. The department integrates education, research, patient care, and community service, leveraging Penn State University’s resources as an R1 land-grant institution.

Specialty clinical and research programs span the translational spectrum, including psychiatry residency, child and adolescent fellowship, psychology internship, externship, and post-doctoral fellowships. The department collaborates with neuroscience and public health disciplines across Penn State campuses.

Clinical services include:

  • 89 inpatient beds at the Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute (PPI) in Harrisburg, PA
  • Partial hospital programs and neuromodulation services
  • Advancement in Recovery addiction treatment program
  • General and specialty outpatient programs for children and adults
  • Programs in general and specialty adult and child psychiatry, sleep medicine, eating disorders, consultation/liaison, and integrated care

The department recently expanded child mental and behavioral health services, including a new inpatient child unit and doubled consultation and liaison teams.
