About the Role

The A Repairman-Track & Way Maintainer will repair, install, inspect, and clean running rail, guard rails, closure rails, and associated track fasteners and accessories. Responsibilities include performing flagging, welding, grinding, fabrication, removing, repairing, installing, and scheduled maintenance on metro and light rail tracks and related structures/appurtenances in accordance with MTA track standards, design plans/specifications, and Federal and State law. The current vacancy is located in Baltimore City or Glen Burnie, Maryland.

Responsibilities

  • Repair, install, inspect, and clean running rail, guard rails, closure rails, and associated track fasteners and accessories.
  • Perform flagging, welding, grinding, and fabrication.
  • Remove, repair, install, and conduct scheduled maintenance on metro and light rail tracks and related structures/appurtenances.
  • Adhere to MTA track standards, design plans/specifications, and Federal and State laws.
  • Maintain a reliable communication link for emergency call-back requirements.
  • Work shifts, evenings, holidays, and weekends as required.
  • Wear protective clothing and use appropriate safety and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Adhere to all safety rules, policies, regulations, and PPE requirements to support a safe and healthy working environment.
  • Attend and participate in safety meetings, report hazards, unsafe acts, near misses, injuries, and accidents immediately.
  • Perform work only for which appropriate safety training has been received.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • One (1) year of experience in railroad or a related industry repairing, installing, inspecting, and cleaning running rail, guard rails, closure rails, and associated track fasteners and accessories.
  • Experience as a railroad tamper operator is highly desirable.
  • Must successfully complete a medical evaluation to determine the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License in the State of Maryland and list the license number and expiration date on the application.
  • Must have a Class "A" Restricted CDL Permit prior to hire and obtain a CDL within the ninety (90) day probationary period.
  • Must be able to perform physical tasks in a heavy maintenance shop environment, including climbing, bending, crouching, stretching, and lifting objects weighing at least 50 lbs.
  • Must be willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions and at all times of the day or night.
  • Must be able to work in hazardous conditions, including exposure to toxic materials, fumes, asbestos, flammable or combustible agents, and other risks requiring PPE.

Qualifications

  • U.S. Armed Forces military service experience involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policies, procedures, or overseeing unit operations may substitute for the required education and experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Employees in this position are considered "Essential Employees" and must sign and agree to all policies and procedures relating to this status.
  • Eligible applicants will be subject to a background investigation under Federal and State laws and regulations.
  • Employees are subject to pre-employment drug testing and ongoing substance abuse testing in accordance with Federal Department of Transportation and Maryland regulations.
