About the role

Perform installation and maintenance of components used in campus heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and related equipment, including chilled water, refrigeration, air compressors, gas heaters, air dryers, fume hoods, and pumps. Provide regular work direction to lower-level mechanics and maintenance personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, replace, operate, maintain, calibrate, test, and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and plumbing components used in HVAC systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment.
  • Troubleshoot pneumatic, electrical, and digital controls.
  • Purchase and account for HVAC-related parts and materials as needed.
  • Work with specialized computer applications related to HVAC systems.
  • Provide work direction to mechanics and maintenance personnel for HVAC system installation and maintenance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED Certificate, or Vocational School Diploma.
  • Universal CFC Refrigerant Recovery License.
  • Four years of job-related experience.
  • Ability to work around rotating machinery, live electrical circuits, hazardous materials, high-pressure liquids and gas, and hot surfaces.
  • Ability to lift objects up to 75 pounds and work in confined spaces, noisy environments, and elevated locations.
  • Willingness to work after hours, respond to call-backs, and wear a full-face respirator as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • State of Georgia Unrestricted HVAC License.
  • Technical Diploma, Associate’s Degree, or two years of college coursework.

Skills

  • Intermediate (journeyman/master) knowledge of installing and maintaining compressors, fans, bearings, belts, dampers, motors, starters, controls, and 208/220/460V and 24V-DC service.
  • Ability to read prints, drawings, and schematics via paper copies and computerized software systems.
  • Proficiency in operating machine tools, motor vehicles (including forklifts), hand/power tools, and hydraulic/pneumatic equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to sequence tasks for specific assignments.

Pay

$24.49 - $33.31 per hour.
