Air Conditioning Mechanic II
Purpose of Position: This role possesses skills at the journeyman level and is responsible for the complete servicing of all heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment on UT Arlington’s campus.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance on air conditioning equipment, refrigeration, and heating equipment.
- Repair and maintain refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, services cold storage units, refrigerated systems, adjust valves, thermostats, and pressure switches.
- Maintain, install, align, service and repair electric motors serving HVAC units, compressors, vacuum pumps including associated drives, sheaves, couplings.
- Pack and repair pumps and electric motors.
- Provide technical capability in troubleshooting energy management and other electronic controls.
- Install air conditioning equipment and ductwork in new construction projects.
- Repair and maintain steam and hydronic boiler systems.
- Repair home type appliances; perform work on equipment in both the campus and Housing complexes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school, GED or vocational school certificate and three (3) years of journeyman-level experience in repair and maintenance of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and systems.
- Valid Texas driver’s license required.
- EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification or ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
Skills
- Ability to use all hand/power tools, equipment and chemicals common with the air conditioning and heating trade.
- Familiarity with different types of HVAC equipment.
- Ability to operate forklift and man-lifts.
- Able to perform moderately heavy physical work; lift/carry 40 pounds of equipment and supplies.
- Knowledge of hand signals used in construction trade is helpful.
- Strong communication skills for positive interaction with campus staff, faculty, and students.
- Alertness and careful attention are required to avoid injury to self and to others.
Pay
The hourly rate for this position ranges from $21.97 to $23.00.
Schedule
Monday through Friday; 8:00am through 4:30pm
Working Conditions
