About the Role
Assist with supervision of all phases of the boys' basketball program for grades 7-12 in the Davenport Community School District, including planning, strategy, and instruction in fundamentals.
Responsibilities
- Oversee care and issuance of all basketball equipment used by the team.
- Communicate with high school coaching staff and attend meetings or mini-clinics to ensure continuity in the 7-12 grade boys' basketball program.
- Understand, monitor, and enforce district academic standards, policies, and eligibility requirements.
- Develop players to their fullest potential, starting with basic fundamentals and progressing to advanced skills.
- Promote good sportsmanship among student-athletes.
- Complete required reports and records accurately and in a timely manner.
- Supervise players at all practices, games, in the locker room, and on the bus.
- Work in cooperation with the building Activity Director and the Director of Athletics.
- Support and implement Davenport's multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) for behavior and academics.
- Build rapport with culturally diverse students to ensure each child reaches their full potential.
- Perform any additional duties as assigned by administration.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly sit, stand, speak, hear, see, and walk to carry out routine duties.
- Occasionally lift, move, or push items up to 50 lbs., such as assisting children or moving furniture.
- Supervise students in all types of weather, both indoors and outdoors.
- Meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and staff.
- Implement Crisis Prevention Intervention strategies, including physical restraint procedures and escorting.
Work Environment
- Noise level ranges from quiet to loud.
- Work may be indoors or outdoors, including non-air-conditioned spaces.
- Fast-paced atmosphere with constant contact with students, staff, or the public.
- Direct responsibility for the safety, well-being, and work output of students.
Qualifications
- Must hold a valid Iowa Coaching Authorization or Iowa Teaching License with Coaching Endorsement.
- Experience with competition or success at the state level is desired.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students.
- Good attendance and punctuality are required.
