About the Role

Assist with supervision of all phases of the boys' basketball program for grades 7-12, including planning, strategy, and instruction in fundamentals. Ensure continuity in the DCSD 7-12 grade boys' basketball program through collaboration with high school coaching staff and attendance at meetings or mini clinics.

Responsibilities

  • Care for and issue all basketball equipment used by the team.
  • Understand, monitor, and enforce district academic standards, policies, and eligibility requirements.
  • Develop players to their fullest potential, starting with basic fundamentals and progressing to advanced skills.
  • Promote good sportsmanship among student-athletes.
  • Complete required reports and records accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to and enforce the athletic policy approved by the Board of Education.
  • Supervise players at all practices, games, in the locker room, and on the bus.
  • Work cooperatively with the building Activity Director and the Director of Athletics.
  • Support and implement Davenport's multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) for behavior and academics.
  • Maintain strong interpersonal skills to build rapport with culturally diverse students.
  • Ensure good attendance and punctuality to perform duties successfully.
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned by administration.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly sit, stand, speak, hear, see, and walk to carry out routine duties.
  • Occasionally lift, move, or push items up to 50 lbs., such as assisting children or moving furniture.
  • Supervise students in all types of weather, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and staff.
  • Implement Crisis Prevention Intervention strategies, including physical restraint and escorting.

Work Environment

  • Noise level ranges from quiet to loud.
  • Work may be indoors or outdoors, including non-air-conditioned rooms.
  • Substance-free and fast-paced environment with constant contact with students, staff, or the public.
  • Direct responsibility for the safety, well-being, and work output of students.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a valid Iowa Coaching Authorization or Iowa Teaching License with Coaching Endorsement.
  • Experience with competition or success at the state level is desired.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students.
