About the Role

Assist with supervision of all phases of the volleyball program, including planning, strategy, and instruction in fundamentals. This position is responsible for the care and issuance of all volleyball equipment used by the team.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with high school coaching staff(s) and attend meetings or mini clinics at high school(s) to ensure continuity in the DCSD 7-12 grade girls volleyball program.
  • Understand, monitor, and enforce district academic standards, policies, and eligibility requirements.
  • Develop players to their fullest potential, starting with the basic fundamentals of volleyball and progressing to advanced skills.
  • Understand and promote good sportsmanship among student-athletes.
  • Complete required reports and records accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of and responsibility for the athletic policy approved by the Board of Education.
  • Supervise players at all practices, games, in the locker room, and on the bus.
  • Work in cooperation with the building Activity Director and the Director of Athletics for the Davenport Community Schools.
  • Support and implement Davenport's multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) for both behavior and academics.
  • Perform any duties as assigned by administration.

Requirements

  • Must possess an enthusiastic attitude and ability to understand intermediate-aged youth in an athletic setting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students.
  • Good attendance and punctuality are required.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, speak, hear, see, and walk to carry out routine duties.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift, move, or push items of 50 lbs., such as assisting children or moving/rearranging furniture.
  • Must be able to supervise students in all types of weather.
  • Ability to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
  • Must be able to implement Crisis Prevention Intervention strategies, including appropriate physical restraint procedures and escorting.

Work Environment

  • Noise level ranges from quiet to loud.
  • Work may be indoors and/or outdoors, including non-air-conditioned rooms.
  • Substance-free and fast-paced atmosphere with constant contact with students, staff, or the public.
  • Direct responsibility for the safety, well-being, and work output of students.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a valid Iowa Coaching Authorization or Iowa Teaching License with Coaching Endorsement.
  • Experience with competition/success at the state level is desired.
