About the role

As an Environmental Scientist and commissioned Medical Corps Officer in the Army National Guard, you will apply your knowledge of biology, environmental health, and industrial hygiene to prevent illness and injury among service members and the communities they protect. You will work alongside other health care professionals, gaining experience in a collaborative environment while serving part-time in your community and during national emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Assess environmental factors such as air quality, water contamination, and mold growth to mitigate health risks.
  • Collaborate with health care professionals to implement preventive measures and ensure the well-being of service members and the public.
  • Serve as a commissioned Officer, leading and mentoring others while eliminating the administrative burdens of civilian practice.
  • Participate in military training and professional development to stay current with the latest techniques in environmental science and health care.

Requirements

  • Meet medical and moral standards for commissioning as an Officer in the Army National Guard.
  • Be a United States citizen.
  • Hold a completed degree from an accredited qualifying program in environmental science or a related field.
  • Be at least 21 years of age (some Advanced Practice Medical Professionals may join up to age 58).
  • Obtain a secret security clearance.

Pay

Most non-prior service candidates will earn between $196.26 and $254.91 per drill weekend.

Schedule

  • Initial military orientation and training: 26 days in San Antonio, TX, at Fort Sam Houston.
  • Part-time service, including drills and training as needed for community or national emergencies.
