72D Environmental Scientist

About the role

As an Environmental Scientist and commissioned Medical Corps Officer in the Army National Guard, you will apply your knowledge of biology, environmental health, and industrial hygiene to prevent illness and injury among service members and the communities they protect. You will work alongside other health care professionals, eliminating the administrative distractions of civilian practice while enhancing your skills through collaboration and advanced training.

Responsibilities

• Assess environmental factors such as air quality, water contamination, and mold growth to mitigate health risks
• Ensure the health and vitality of National Guard personnel responding to community, state, or national threats
• Serve as a commissioned Officer, leading and training alongside fellow Medical Corps professionals
• Practice in your community while maintaining readiness to serve when needed

Requirements

• Meet medical and moral standards for commissioning as an Officer
• Be a United States citizen
• Hold a degree from an accredited qualifying program in environmental science or a related field
• Be at least 21 years of age (some Advanced Practice Medical Professionals may join up to age 58)
• Obtain a secret security clearance

Training

Complete a 26-day initial military orientation and training course at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX, led by fellow Medical Professional Officers.

Pay

Most non-prior service candidates will earn between $196.26 and $254.91 per drill weekend.
