About the role

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for advocating and supporting adults 22 and over with intellectual and developmental disabilities by empowering them to be as active in their lives as they can. Their support needs include, but are not limited to, household maintenance, meal prep, shopping, bathing, toileting, dressing, teeth brushing, etc., so that they may always look and feel their best.

Responsibilities

• Assist with medical appointments, banking, and community outings
• Administer medications and follow Behavior Support Plans, Individual Support Plans, and goals
• Follow medical guidelines and maintain certifications
• Safely evacuate individuals from the home in the event of an emergency
• Handle job-related duties in compliance with Agency policies and follow all DDS regulations/policies

Requirements

• High School Degree or G.E.D.
• Must have a valid driver’s license, daily use of a car on site (preferred but not required), and be available by telephone for daily contact
• Must be 21+ with reliable transportation and valid driving license

• Commitment to assisting people with varying disabilities to participate fully in their community and in their own lives
• Varied interests and personal connections in the local community
• Proven record of conscientious, responsible behavior (work, volunteer or school history)
• Ability to work as a creative, engaged, dedicated member of the team

Training

DSP workers are provided paid New Employee Orientation, paid CPR/First Aid, PABC, Defensive Driving, and Medication Administration Program (MAP), as well as program- and person-specific training at the individuals’ home.

Pay

$17.50–$19.00 per hour

Schedule

• Full-time: Sunday–Thursday, 11 p.m.–7 a.m.
• Part-time: 40 hours
