About the role
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for advocating and supporting adults 22 and over with intellectual and developmental disabilities by empowering them to be as active in their lives as they can.
Responsibilities
- Support adults 22 and over with intellectual and developmental disabilities in daily life, including household maintenance, meal prep, shopping, bathing, toileting, dressing, and teeth brushing so that they may always look and feel their best.
- Assist individuals with medical appointments and banking.
- Help individuals become active members of their community and attend outings.
- Administer medications.
- Follow Behavior Support Plans, Individual Support Plans, and individual goals.
- Follow medical guidelines that are in place.
- Safely evacuate individuals from the home in the event of an emergency.
- Maintain required certifications and handle job-related duties in compliance with Agency policies and all DDS regulations/policies.
Training
DSP workers are provided paid New Employee Orientation, paid CPR/First Aid, PABC, Defensive Driving, and Medication Administration Program (MAP) training, as well as program- and person-specific training at the individuals' home. DSPs must maintain these certifications.
Qualifications
- Commitment to assisting people with varying disabilities to participate fully in their community and in their own lives.
- Varied interests and personal connections in the local community.
- Proven record of conscientious, responsible behavior (work, volunteer, or school history).
- Ability to work as a creative, engaged, dedicated member of the team.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Must be 21 or older with reliable transportation and a valid driver's license.
- Daily use of a car on site is preferred but not required.
- Must be available by telephone for daily contact.

Pay and Schedule
- Pay rate: $17.50–$19.00 per hour.
- Part-time, 20 hours per week.
- Schedule: Saturday 7:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. and Sunday 7:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
