About the role

This open position is in a highly behavioral residential home setting. The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for advocating and supporting adults 22 and over with intellectual and developmental disabilities by empowering them to be as active in their lives as they can. Their support needs include, but are not limited to, household maintenance, meal prep, shopping, bathing, toileting, dressing, teeth brushing, etc., so that they may always look and feel their best. The DSP may be asked to assist them to their medical appointments, banking, assist them to become active members of their community, attend outings, administer medications, follow Behavior Support Plans, Individual Support Plans and goals, and to follow medical guidelines that are in place.

The DSP must be able to safely evacuate individuals from the home in the event of an emergency. DSP workers must maintain certifications, handle job related duties in compliance with Agency policies and follow all DDS regulations/policies.

Responsibilities

• Advocate for and support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities
• Assist with household maintenance, meal preparation, shopping, bathing, toileting, dressing, and teeth brushing
• Support individuals to medical appointments, banking, community activities, and outings
• Administer medications and follow Behavior Support Plans, Individual Support Plans, and medical guidelines
• Safely evacuate individuals during emergencies
• Comply with Agency policies and DDS regulations

Requirements

• Must be 21+ with reliable transportation and valid driver’s license
• High School Diploma or GED
• Experience working in a residential setting with highly behavioral individuals
• Ability to speak, read, and write in fluent English

Training

• Paid New Employee Orientation
• Paid CPR/First Aid, PABC, Defensive Driving, and Medication Administration Program (MAP)
• Program and person specific training at the individuals’ home

Pay

$17.50–$19.00 per hour

Schedule

Part Time: 6 hours per week, Saturday 4:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m.
