About the Role

Shadow Solar Technician to assemble, install, or maintain solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on uneven terrain, roofs, or other structures in compliance with site assessment and schematics. May include measuring, cutting, assembling, and bolting structural framing and solar modules supporting systems.

Responsibilities

• Use appropriate hand tools (e.g., crescent wrench, pliers, hammer, screwdriver) and power tools (e.g., drills, impact wrenches) to install photovoltaic (PV) systems in accordance with codes, standards, drawings, schematics, and instructions.
• Lay out, assemble, and install solar modules/panels support structures as specified.
• Install structural, mechanical, rack systems, and PV panels.
• Lift, carry, and hold building materials, tools, and supplies; clean tools, equipment, materials, and work areas following a "clean as you go" policy.
• Participate in all safety-related processes and programs to achieve zero injuries. Identify and mitigate hazards, use stop-work authority when needed, and report all accidents and near misses.
• Engage in pre-job work planning and safety discussions; follow lockout/tagout procedures and site-specific training.
• Understand and respond to safety hazards and warning devices (e.g., back-up alarms, warning tags, sirens).
• Use effective verbal and written communication skills; perform basic arithmetic operations accurately.
• Listen to co-workers’ suggestions and concerns, coordinate work with other crafts, and actively participate in on-the-job training.
• Produce quality work meeting plans, specifications, and industry standards; learn to read and interpret plans and visualize two-dimensional drawings in three dimensions.
• Assist in material storage, planning, and layout; learn to perform layout independently and assist journeymen.
• Observe functioning of installed equipment to identify hazards or needed adjustments; notify supervision of any issues.
• Inspect field conditions, identify problems, and take corrective actions as needed.

Requirements

• 1 – 1.5 years’ experience or 2001 - 3000 hours working as a laborer or in any construction craft as a helper.
• Develop knowledge of the assembly, installation, or maintenance of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.
• Ability to understand and follow directions.
• Must possess all necessary tools (see Solar Tool List).
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements, including background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search.

Work Environment / Physical Demands

• Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 52 pounds.
• Stand, kneel, bend, stoop, and move in confined, cluttered, or uneven areas.
• Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with job duties.
• Use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls; repetitive movement required.
• Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
• Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and outdoor conditions.
• Extensive walking throughout the shift.
• Work in cramped spaces, awkward positions, and extreme temperatures (below 32°F or above 90°F).
• Exposure to inclement weather (dust, wind, snow, rain), bright or low lighting, and loud or uncomfortable noise levels.
• Work around hazardous equipment; position is safety-sensitive.
• Additional Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) may be required (e.g., Kevlar sleeves).
