About the role

The Laborer Apprentice 3 (Solar) position at Overland Contracting Inc. involves assembling, installing, or maintaining solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on uneven terrain, roofs, or other structures in compliance with site assessment and schematics. Responsibilities include measuring, cutting, assembling, and bolting structural framing and solar modules supporting systems.

Responsibilities

• Use appropriate hand tools and power tools to perform a variety of functions to install photovoltaic (PV) systems in accordance with codes and standards using drawings, schematics, and instructions.
• Lay-out, assemble and install solar modules/panels support structures, as specified.
• Install structural, mechanical, rack system and PV panels.
• Lift, carry and hold building materials, tools, and supplies; clean tools, equipment, material, and work areas.
• Participate in all safety related processes and programs as requested.
• Engage with your work team to ensure we achieve zero injuries.
• Report all accidents and near misses to supervisor; participate in investigation process as needed.
• Attend site specific training and assure you follow all procedures as outlined in training.
• Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work environment.
• Use effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Coordinate work with other crafts and co-workers on the job.
• Participate in on-the-job training and mentoring opportunities with co-workers in your craft when provided.
• Produce quality work, meeting requirements of plans, specifications and industry standards.
• Learn to read and understand plans and specifications. Visualize two dimensional drawings in three dimensions.
• Assist in the storage, planning and lay-out of materials in accordance with those plans and specifications.
• Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and continuous improvement measures that arise or that may be encountered. Take corrective actions as needed reporting any issues to your supervision.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

• 1 – 1.5 years’ experience or 2001 - 3000 hours working as a laborer or in any construction craft as a helper.
• Develop a knowledge of the assembly, installation, or maintenance of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.
• Ability to understand and follow directions.
• Must have all necessary tools (see Solar Tool List).
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
