3rd shift, Material Handler, 10HR Dry Van Materials - North Plant

About the Role

Material handlers work on a variety of components that differ by location. Responsibilities include operating heavy machinery such as forklifts, tuggers, tractors, hoists, and cranes. While you will receive training to operate these vehicles, the role is not limited to machinery operation. Material handlers may also check, store, disburse, or fill orders for parts, materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.

Responsibilities

• Own and improve performance in Safety, Quality, and Delivery
• Maintain and report daily receiving and shipping activities
• Report defects and needs for repairs
• Keep production lines stocked with proper materials
• Perform additional work as assigned by supervisors or coordinators, which may include assisting in different departments
• Wear approved personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, respirators, and hearing protection
• Complete duties in accordance with safety policies and practices, ensuring individual and co-worker safety as well as safe equipment use

Depending on your department and location, you may work with the following tools and equipment. Training is provided for all items listed:

• Personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Forklift
• Tugger
• Tractor
• Hoist
• Load securement tools
• SAP Program
• Crane

Requirements

• High school degree or G.E.D. equivalent
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen
• Ability to pass PIV (power industrial vehicle) training
• Basic reading, writing, math, and verbal skills
• Basic computer knowledge

Qualifications

Experience and education are a plus but not required. Wabash provides comprehensive training for all material handler positions, including orientation and several days of preparation for the production floor.

Working Conditions

The work environment may include loud noise, welding, paint fumes, and grinding dust. Employees may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibrations. Occasional exposure to extreme conditions, such as high temperatures or outdoor elements, may occur. All production floor employees must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to stand, walk, climb, sit, bend, kneel, stoop, handle, and operate controls for the entire shift
• Full range of motion in arms and hands

• Frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects up to 50 pounds
• Occasional work in small spaces
• Specific vision abilities include close vision, ability to adjust focus, and good hand-eye coordination
