Material handlers work with a variety of components that differ by location. Responsibilities include operating heavy machinery such as forklifts, tuggers, tractors, hoists, and cranes, as well as managing parts, materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.

Responsibilities

  • Own and improve performance in Safety, Quality, and Delivery
  • Maintain and report daily receiving and shipping activities
  • Report defects and needs for repairs
  • Keep production lines stocked with proper materials
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors or coordinators, which may include assisting in different departments
  • Wear approved personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, respirators, and hearing protection
  • Complete assigned duties in accordance with safety policies and practices

Requirements

  • High school degree or G.E.D. equivalent
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen
  • Must pass PIV (power industrial vehicle) training
  • Basic reading, writing, math, and verbal skills
  • Basic computer knowledge

Working Conditions

The work environment may include loud noise, welding, paint fumes, and grinding dust. Employees may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibrations. Occasional exposure to extreme conditions, high temperatures, and outdoor elements may occur. All production floor employees must wear required PPE.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, climb, sit, bend, kneel, stoop, handle, and operate controls for the entire shift
  • Full range of motion in arms and hands
  • Must communicate effectively with fellow employees
  • Ability to work in small spaces and lift/carry objects up to 50 pounds
  • Close vision and ability to adjust focus, with good hand-eye coordination
