3rd shift, Material Handler, 10HR Components Materials - North Plant

About the Role

Material handlers are tasked with working on a variety of different components that vary by location. Activities include operating heavy machinery such as forklifts, tuggers, tractors, hoists, and cranes. Although you will receive appropriate training to operate these vehicles, the role is not limited to operating machinery. Material handlers may also check, store, disburse, or fill orders for parts, materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.

Responsibilities

• Own and help improve performance in Safety, Quality, and Delivery.
• Maintain and report daily receiving and shipping activities.
• Report defects and needs for repairs.
• Keep production lines stocked with the proper materials.
• Perform additional work as assigned by the supervisor or coordinator, which may include assisting in different departments.
• Wear approved personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses with side shields, respirators, and hearing protection.
• Complete assigned duties in accordance with safety policies and practices, ensuring individual safety as well as the safety of co-workers and the safe use of equipment.

Requirements

• High school degree or G.E.D. equivalent is required.
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
• Must be able to pass PIV (power industrial vehicle) training.
• Basic reading, writing, math, and verbal skills.
• Basic computer knowledge.

Skills & Experience

Experience and education are a plus but not required. Wabash provides training for all material handler positions. Upon hiring, you will undergo orientation and several days of training to prepare you for the production floor. Working conditions may include loud noise, welding, paint fumes, and grinding dust.

Working Conditions

The work environment may involve loud noise, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibrations. Employees may occasionally work in extreme conditions, including high temperatures, outdoor elements, and confined spaces. Due to the work environment, all employees on the production floor must wear the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE).

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to stand, walk, climb, sit, bend, kneel, stoop, handle, and operate controls for the length of an entire shift.
• Full range of motion in arms and hands is necessary.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with fellow employees.
• Frequently lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, the ability to adjust focus, and good hand-eye coordination.
