About the role

The EH&S Tech I supports the Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) department by performing tasks aimed at ensuring employee well-being and safety. This includes administrative duties, maintaining confidentiality of medical records, and supporting OSHA-mandated medical surveillance programs.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains confidentiality of all medical records and employee health information.
  • Creates and coordinates annual testing schedules for OSHA-mandated medical surveillance programs.
  • Provides administrative support to medical department staff.
  • Assists with injury intake and first-aid.
  • Maintains medical supply inventory.
  • Coordinates clinic appointments.
  • Ensures required documentation is properly completed for all medical surveillance programs.
  • Communicates discrepancies with staff nurse.
  • Compiles and enters data in electronic data systems.
  • Performs occupational medical surveillance.
  • Performs additional tasks as assigned by Manager.
  • Required to maintain First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Maintains EHS programs and software.

Requirements

  • Formal training in occupational health and safety is preferred.
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience with health and safety programs and associated regulations is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate efficiently both written and orally.
  • Good attendance record.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong ability to work independently.
  • Understanding of Wabash products and the components used to make them.
  • Must be strong-willed and capable of managing stress in a multi-project environment.
  • Understanding of the receiving process and inventory flow process.
  • Strong understanding of the layout of the warehouse and other component storage locations.
  • Understanding of warehouse receiving process, component storage process, material ordering, and material movement.
  • Strong record-keeping skills.
  • Able to identify information on packing slips.
  • Reading Bill of Ladings.
  • Clerical knowledge.

Physical Requirements

  • The work requires climbing of over six (6) feet in height using a ladder or scaffolding and bending and stooping to reach the underside of tanks.
  • Physical requirements include bending, stooping, and climbing for approximately 30% of the shift and standing for approximately 70% of the shift.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, lean, push, climb, sit, bend, kneel, stoop, handle, and operate tools or controls for the length of the shift.
  • Full range of motion in arms and hands.
  • Frequently lift and/or carry objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus, along with good hand-eye coordination.

Working Conditions

  • Working conditions may consist of loud noise, welding, paint fumes, and grinding dust.
  • Exposure to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibrations.
  • Occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions, including high temperatures and very loud noise levels.
  • All employees on the production floor must wear the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE).
