About the role

The Carpenter - Helper 2 position at Overland Contracting Inc. assists journeyman in various tasks related to concrete structures and related carpentry work. The role requires adherence to plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards.

Responsibilities

• Use appropriate tools to measure, cut, assemble and install forms, rebar, embeds and anchor bolts.
• Construct and assemble wooden forms and frame shelters according to specifications.
• Pour concrete into forms and finish the surface to specifications.
• Remove rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces and patch holes.
• Install other items in accordance with plans and specifications.
• Engage in safety-related processes and programs.
• Communicate effectively and listen to co-workers' suggestions and safety concerns.
• Coordinate work with other crafts and co-workers.
• Participate in on-the-job training and mentoring opportunities.
• Assist in planning, installing, and repairing structures.
• Examine and inspect field conditions and identify problems.
• Operate construction equipment safely and maintain it.
• Report hazards and take corrective actions.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of experience working in the carpenter craft or similar craft as a helper or a combination of work experience and training.
• A working knowledge of the carpenter craft, including fabrication and erection of forms, rebar, and concrete placement.
• Ability to understand and follow directions.
• Working knowledge of necessary tools.
• Must be at least 18 years old.

Skills

• Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
