About the role

The Carpenter - Helper 2 position at Overland Contracting Inc. assists journeyman in planning, laying out, and installing forms, rebar, embeds, and anchor bolts for concrete structures. The role involves using appropriate tools, erecting forms, inserting spreaders and tie-rods, anchoring and bracing forms, building wooden structures, pouring concrete, and maintaining a safe work environment.

Responsibilities

• Use appropriate hand and power tools to measure, cut, assemble, and install forms, rebar, embeds, and anchor bolts.
• Construct and assemble wooden forms according to specifications.
• Erect built-in-place forms or assemble prefabricated forms.
• Insert spreaders and tie-rods to maintain specific dimensions.
• Anchore and brace forms to fixed objects using various materials.
• Build wooden structures such as scaffold supports and shelters.
• Pour concrete into forms and finish the surface to specifications.
• Remove rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces and patch holes.
• Install other items in accordance with plans and specifications.
• Engage in safety-related processes and programs.
• Report accidents and near misses to supervisors and participate in investigations.
• Identify and address safety hazards and take corrective actions.
• Complete daily equipment inspections and ensure construction equipment is in good working order.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of experience in the carpenter craft or similar craft as a helper.
• A working knowledge of the carpenter craft, including fabrication and erection of forms, rebar installation, and concrete finishing.
• Ability to understand and follow directions.
• Knowledge of industrial carpentry including Symons forms, rebar tying techniques, and concrete finishing.
• Tools required for the job.
• Must be at least 18 years old.

• Ability to visualize two-dimensional drawings in three dimensions.

Pay

Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Schedule

This is a full-time position with occasional overtime as needed.

Management Responsibilities

Assist journeymen in laying out work and learn to perform layout independently. Learn to observe and adjust functioning of installed equipment or systems. Notify supervision of any hazards observed and utilize safety stop work authority as needed. Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost-saving measures.
