2nd Shift - Production Associate (Hand Lamination)

About the role

Produce composite laminates to be used in the production of advanced aerospace composite laminate for sails, medical devices, outdoor applications, and other uses. Set up, operate, adjust, and clean all equipment required to produce CT products in accordance with work instructions and standard operating procedures. Take samples and determine properties of the produced intermediate and finished products. Maintain records of raw materials and finished product in the appropriate system. Inspect and pack finished product. Move, measure, maintain inventory, and store raw, intermediate, and finished products. Assist in the training, guidance, and leadership of other team members. Exposure to hazardous conditions and contaminants.

Responsibilities

• Set up, operate, adjust, and clean equipment to produce CT products according to work instructions and SOPs.
• Take samples and determine properties of intermediate and finished products.
• Prepare samples for offline quality checks.
• Supply and maintain inventory of components and supplies as needed.
• Correct process conditions within given limits to maintain desired quality.
• Communicate any product-related issues to Shift Lead/Shift Supervisor.
• Perform minor preventative maintenance.
• Inspect and pack finished product; perform in-process quality checks as required.
• Ensure all product documentation is accurate and complete.
• Maintain records of raw materials and finished products in the appropriate computer system; enter data about components, intermediate, and finished products into tracing and tracking systems.
• Move, measure, maintain inventory, and store raw, intermediate, and finished products; receive, store, handle, and deliver materials as required.
• Operate material handling equipment including rider/walkie trucks and overhead cranes.
• Utilize good judgment in making decisions on product quality, equipment functionality, safety, and related activities.
• Identify problems related to equipment, work orders, log books, set-ups, and recommend solutions.
• Make suggestions regarding product quality, safety precautions, and work improvements.
• Inform Lead of any problems that may impair product quality, packaging components, work efficiency, or safety.
• Participate in Near Miss investigations, set up RCAs and JSAs, and join SHE, Quality, or other special task teams as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

• High school diploma and at least 1 year of experience in a manufacturing setting, preferably in fibers production or equivalent military technical experience or training.
• Knowledge of appropriate safety procedures.
• Knowledge of changeovers, cleaning, set-up, and work instructions.
• Ability to perform mathematical computation and problem solving.
• Organize, schedule, and follow up on activities.
• Creativity and initiative.
• Interpersonal and communication skills, including effective oral and written communication in English.
• Basic computer skills (Word and Access).
• Ability to operate forklift and overhead cranes.
• Mechanical skills and knowledge including equipment assembly.
• Ability to identify problems and make sound decisions to resolve them.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and follow directions.
• Ability to read gauges, dials, meters, and set controllers; ability to coordinate hand-arm manipulation.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls; talk and/or hear.
• Occasionally required to sit.
• Must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally handle up to 100 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities may require close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Requires use of safety equipment such as safety glasses and shoes, dust mask, hard hat, face shield, hearing protection, chemical suit, gloves, aprons, etc.
• Typical work is in a loud manufacturing environment.
• Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, dust, fumes, airborne particles, chemical dust, and risk of electric shock, vibration, non-hazardous chemical agents, and outside weather conditions.
• Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles.
• Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.

Essential Functions

• Responsible for compliance with relevant laws, regulatory requirements, recipes, SOPs, and other related documentation and activities.
• Ensure company guidelines related to quality, safety, housekeeping, and cost effectiveness are met.
• Utilize good judgment in making critical decisions on product quality, equipment functionality, safety, and other related activities.
• Identify problems related to equipment, work orders, log books, set-ups, and recommend ways to solve; make suggestions regarding product quality, safety precautions, and work improvements.
• Inform Lead of any problems that may impair the quality of the CT product, packaging components, work efficiency, and/or safety.

Projects or Special Assignments

This position involves work with (supervision of) and/or handling hazardous materials and waste at the APM work site. Worker has the appropriate qualifications to read, understand, apply, and communicate written and verbal information regarding handling and managing hazardous wastes. Training is required within six months of worker assuming duty and once a year thereafter. Worker is responsible for proper handling, documentation, inspection, and transporting of hazardous wastes around the facility. Worker may also be responsible for responding to emergencies involving hazardous waste.
